Windows or Apple Chapter 01

For the past 2-3 months now I have an iMac. I haven’t told anyone about it because I wanted to figure things out myself. Now that I have had some time to work with a Mac I think it’s time to write a small review. I can honestly say that I am not disappointed with my iMac but there are a few things I miss from my Windows Computer.

The first thing I miss is a resize function. On my Windows Computer I have this power tool where I can select all the pictures I want to resize. Right-click on them and go to resize. Then I get this new screen where I can select the measurements I want the pictures to show in. Once this is done it’ll resize all the pictures I’ve selected. On my iMac the only way I could find to resize my pictures was with Photoshop, and since I am not a PS geek I only know how to resize my photo’s one by one. Annoying.

Which brings me to the second thing I miss on my Mac. Photoshop! I know there’s a photoshop for the mac, hell I’ve even used a trial version but that’s all I could find. A trial version. After 30 (? was it 30?) days I can’t use it anymore. Unfortunately I cannot find a full version anywhere so I’ve got to use the one I have on my laptop.

What I also don’t like is that I cannot use my hard drives on my mac. I have a 500GB external HDD which has all my backups on it but I couldn’t put any files on it since it had an only read permission. So, I had to format my HDD into a Mac format and then I could use it. Although this was annoying, it did give me a chance to sort out my files. Now I have my 500GB hdd for my backups, my 300GB hdd for my music and other stuff and my 120GB is empty. So, this also has a plus side. But in the beginning it was annoying because I wasn’t able to copy my files onto the hdd I had to use my laptop to do so.

Now that I’ve only told you the cons, let me tell you a few pro’s.

I love textmate (Text editor) and Adium (Messenger)!

I love how easy Timemachine is (my backup program). It’s just one click and it backups all my files every hour. Now I find that a little annoying so I just backup it whenever I want to but I have to say it’s very easy to set up. I love that!

Although some things are a little getting used to (like the close button is on the left instead of the right I was used to on Windows) I do think it’s very easy to use. There are different programs that makes everything so much more fun and/or so much easier. The funny thing is that Microsoft Word (I barely use Excel, Powerpoint etc) is so much easier to use than the Windows version (Microsoft Office 2007) and it looks better.

Also what I love, and this is not a software thing but a hardware thing. I love the keyboard! Although there are a few things that I still need to get used to. Like no more ‘dead’ keys and I have to press alt to get é.

All in all I love my new iMac. Though there are a few things I miss I’m sure they are out there somewhere. Some things are still new and getting used to but I’m sure I’ll learn it. So, I want to give a huge thank you to my grandmother for giving me this wonderful new iMac! I love it, thanks gran!
